California’s 45th congressional district held its June 2 top-two primary, with incumbent Democrat Derek Tran facing five Republican challengers in an Orange County seat featuring a large Asian American electorate. Early returns show Tran exceeding 50 percent of the vote, positioning him to advance alongside the leading Republican, while vote-by-mail ballots continue to arrive. The district’s narrow 2024 margin and the split GOP field have shaped positioning, with the general election set for November 3. Trader consensus in related markets reflects high certainty around Tran’s advancement and a narrower contest for the Republican slot.
