Sam Altman’s continued refusal to personally sign the July 2026 “Pacing the Frontier” employee statement drives the 84.5% “No” odds, even as he publicly endorsed the broader concept of pacing frontier AI development. The original letter, backed by over 1,300 staff from OpenAI, Anthropic and peers, requests U.S.-led international tools for coordinated slowdowns if automated research accelerates uncontrollably; Altman has praised the idea in podcasts and recent statements but has not added his name despite OpenAI’s corporate endorsement and his own September commitments to embedded evaluators. With the September 30 deadline just weeks away and no fresh indication he plans to sign the specific document, traders see little catalyst for reversal before resolution.

A qualifying listing must identify Sam Altman by name together with his role at OpenAI, or otherwise make clear that the signatory is the CEO of OpenAI. Once Sam Altman is listed or confirms signing, this market will resolve to "Yes" regardless of whether his name is later removed or the statement is later amended.
The primary resolution source for this market will be the signatory list at pacingthefrontier.com; however, official statements from Sam Altman or OpenAI and a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
