Recent National Weather Service and model guidance point to a high temperature in the low 70s for Chicago on September 16, driven by northeast winds advecting cooler, more stable air behind Tuesday’s storms and increased cloud cover that limits daytime heating. With a 40 percent chance of showers, especially morning and early afternoon, surface temperatures are expected to peak near 72°F at O’Hare, aligning with the market’s leading 72-73°F bin at 47 percent implied probability. This outcome sits well below the 1991-2020 climatological average high of 76°F, reflecting the post-frontal regime and modest onshore flow off Lake Michigan. Updated model runs and the next NWS forecast discussion will be key for any last adjustments before resolution.
