The district's longstanding strong Republican lean, combined with Steve Scalise's incumbency since 2008 and prominent leadership role, anchors trader consensus around a Republican hold. Louisiana's jungle primary system and limited Democratic field, including challenger Lauren Jewett, have produced no significant polling shifts or competitive signals through mid-2026, aligning with independent ratings classifying the seat as safe Republican. Recent candidate filings confirm the partisan baseline, with no major legislative or national developments altering the landscape. A late retirement announcement, health-related withdrawal, or unforeseen scandal involving the incumbent could open pathways for upset, though such events remain low-probability based on current evidence.
