Texas's 5th congressional district remains a solidly Republican seat ahead of the November 2026 general election. Incumbent Republican Lance Gooden secured his party's nomination without opposition in the March primary, while Democrat Chelsey Hockett advanced through a May runoff to become the Democratic nominee. The district's boundaries, drawn in recent redistricting, encompass suburban and rural areas east of Dallas with consistent Republican voting patterns, including strong support for GOP candidates in the 2024 cycle. Forecasters rate the race as safe for the incumbent party, limiting Democratic prospects despite national midterm dynamics. Traders' consensus reflects these structural advantages and the absence of competitive primary challenges or major recent developments that would alter the outlook.
