Rebecca Bennett’s decisive victory in the June 2 Democratic primary consolidated support behind the former Navy helicopter pilot and healthcare executive in New Jersey’s competitive 7th district. Incumbent Republican Tom Kean Jr., running unopposed in his primary, has been absent from congressional votes since early March due to an unspecified illness, drawing attention to the seat. Recent head-to-head polling has shown Bennett leading or nearly tied with Kean, consistent with the district’s toss-up ratings from Cook, Inside Elections, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball. The seat’s history of midterm flips, combined with the primary outcome and Kean’s extended absence, has shaped trader consensus around elevated Democratic prospects for November.
