China’s September CPI reading sits near recent prints, with August’s 0.8% annual rate reflecting a modest rebound from July’s 0.5% low. Persistent food deflation, especially in pork amid ample supply and subdued consumption, continues to cap headline gains, while core inflation hovers around 1% and non-food components such as transport show sensitivity to global energy prices. Weak domestic demand and limited pass-through from upstream cost pressures keep the distribution centered on the 0.7–1.0% band. The near-even split between the 0.7–0.8% and 0.9–1.0% brackets captures uncertainty over whether seasonal or energy-related factors will nudge the outcome higher or leave it anchored near the latest observed level.
