Official NWS forecasts for New York City on August 28, 2026, project daytime highs in the lower 80s amid partly sunny conditions, patchy morning fog, and a 30% chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms driven by moderate instability and high dew points near 68–70°F. Light northwest winds and increasing cloud cover are expected to limit peak solar heating compared to recent drier days, aligning with climatological normals around 82°F. These conditions explain the market’s concentration of implied probability in the 82–85°F range, as forecasters across Central Park and regional airports converge on similar outcomes without signals of stronger heat or rapid cooling. Afternoon convective activity and urban heat island moderation remain key variables that could nudge the actual maximum within or just outside that band before resolution.
