Republicans currently hold a narrow House majority heading into the 2026 midterms, but generic ballot polling shows Democrats ahead by 4-8 points amid typical midterm headwinds for the president's party. Trader sentiment reflects this uncertainty, with probabilities spread across seat ranges near or below 210, driven by factors including President Trump's approval ratings, voter concerns over the economy, and the impact of recent redistricting that offered Republicans some defensive advantages. Key variables such as candidate recruitment in battleground districts, turnout among core voting blocs, and any shifts in the national environment could determine whether seat losses remain modest or expand further. Upcoming polls and campaign developments through fall will likely influence positioning.
