The 2026 Texas Railroad Commissioner race features Democratic nominee Jon Rosenthal, a Houston state representative and former oil-field engineer, against Republican Bo French, who defeated incumbent Jim Wright in the May primary runoff. French's campaign has centered on cultural and ideological priorities such as opposition to DEI initiatives and immigration concerns, drawing internal GOP criticism and a recent pledge from strategist Karl Rove to support Rosenthal. Polling shows a narrow contest with substantial undecided independents and low name recognition for both candidates. Traders assign Rosenthal a modest lead, reflecting the impact of Republican divisions and French's primary win on general-election positioning ahead of the November 3 vote.
