Jesper de Jong holds a clear edge entering this Nordea Open clay-court encounter as the higher-ranked player at world No. 73 against Vilius Gaubas at No. 129. De Jong reached the French Open fourth round earlier in 2026 and recently advanced past the Wimbledon first round before falling to Joao Fonseca, demonstrating solid recent form on varied surfaces. Gaubas, a 21-year-old Lithuanian, notched his first ATP main-draw wins on clay during the South American swing and posted strong Challenger results but lacks comparable depth in major events. Their sole prior meeting saw de Jong prevail in 2025 US Open qualifying on hard courts. Both players are shifting from grass to clay, where de Jong’s experience and consistency on slower surfaces typically translate to stronger baseline rallies and point construction.
