US government export controls issued shortly after the June 9, 2026 launch of Claude Mythos 5—an advanced large language model from Anthropic with state-of-the-art cybersecurity and biology capabilities—drove the immediate global suspension of access on June 12 to comply with directives limiting use by foreign nationals. Traders see this national security order, which also halted the safer Claude Fable 5 variant, as the core factor behind current outage odds, amid ongoing US-China AI tensions and Anthropic’s Project Glasswing partnerships. Resolution hinges on safeguard enhancements, regulatory negotiations, or a trusted access program expansion, with older Claude models remaining available in the interim.
