Ukraine's next presidential and parliamentary elections remain suspended under martial law, extended through at least 31 October 2026, as the constitution prohibits voting during active conflict. President Zelensky's term expired in May 2024, yet no polls have occurred due to security risks, logistical barriers for millions of displaced voters abroad and in occupied territories, and the absence of enabling legislation. Recent polling shows Zelensky's support eroding, with rivals including Valerii Zaluzhnyi and Mykhailo Fedorov leading hypothetical runoffs by wide margins amid corruption concerns. A working group continues drafting rules for post-martial-law voting, while Fedorov's August 2026 public call for wartime elections introduced limited internal debate. Any ceasefire, major Russian escalation, or parliamentary extension decision could shift timelines and trader assessments of when an election might be formally called.
