The tight contest for Genesee County in Michigan’s open U.S. Senate race reflects the broader statewide dynamics between Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed and Republican nominee Mike Rogers, with recent polls showing a margin of roughly 1–4 points. El-Sayed’s narrow August primary victory consolidated progressive support in urban and suburban areas, while Rogers benefits from strong Republican turnout in outstate regions and independents split nearly evenly. Genesee County’s Democratic lean, including its performance in the primary where Haley Stevens outperformed El-Sayed, keeps trader expectations closely balanced despite El-Sayed’s modest edge. Fundraising edges, voter mobilization efforts, and any shifts in undecided voters or turnout among key demographics such as younger voters and Black residents could widen the gap before November 3.
