Incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), commands trader consensus at 96% implied probability of forming Assam's next majority government following the April 9, 2026, single-phase legislative assembly elections across 126 seats, driven by consistent pre-poll surveys projecting NDA wins of 90+ seats and record 85% voter turnout favoring BJP strongholds in upper Assam, tea tribe, and indigenous areas. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's enduring popularity—preferred by nearly half of respondents—bolsters incumbency advantages from the 2021 victory, amid fragmented opposition including Indian National Congress (INC) and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). While unverified opposition allegations of strongroom security lapses persist, vote counting on May 4 could confirm the outcome unless substantiated irregularities trigger re-polls or legal interventions.
