The 2026 Hungarian parliamentary election on April 12 delivered record voter turnout of 77.8% by 6:30pm local time, per the National Election Office, eclipsing the 2002 high of 70.5% and cementing trader consensus on the 77–80% outcome at 97.5%. This surge stemmed from unprecedented mobilization in a fiercely contested race between incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party and challenger Péter Magyar's center-right Tisza party, with pre-election polls signaling a potential shift after 16 years of Fidesz dominance. Final certified figures from domestic and overseas ballots are pending but align closely with this range, reflecting the wisdom of crowds in a high-stakes proportional representation system. Late adjustments from recounts or mail-in tallies could shift odds, though structural barriers to deviation remain high given consistent reporting.
