Recent August ISM Manufacturing PMI data at 54.6, below consensus of 55.2 and down from July’s 55.6 peak, anchors trader positioning for the September release. The reading marked the eighth straight month of expansion yet showed notable cooling in new orders (53.7) and backlogs (51.8), while production held near 58.3 and employment eased to 51.2. Elevated prices paid at 71.1 reflect ongoing input-cost pressures from tariffs, supply-chain delays, and Middle East-related energy volatility, offset by AI-related demand. With outcomes clustered around 50–53.9 and meaningful probability on 56+, markets price in continued moderate growth tempered by these headwinds ahead of the October 1 release.
