Traders see nearly even odds between a minimum of 67°F or below and 86°F or higher in Austin on September 18 because National Weather Service and private forecast models diverge sharply on overnight temperatures. A possible weak cold front could advect drier, cooler air southward, allowing radiational cooling under clear skies to drop readings into the mid-60s, while a stalled or absent front would leave the region under continued warm, humid southerly flow with minima remaining in the mid-80s. Ensemble guidance shows spread in boundary-layer moisture and wind speeds, both of which strongly influence minimum temperature via the surface energy budget. Updated model runs tonight and early Wednesday morning will likely narrow the range ahead of the daily low observation.
