**Official forecasts from the National Weather Service and other models indicate a Thursday high in the upper 90s for Austin, driven by partly to mostly cloudy skies, light easterly winds, and a 20–40% chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms that could limit peak heating.** These conditions, combined with high humidity supporting heat indices near 106–107°F, create tight uncertainty between 96–97°F and 98–99°F outcomes. Recent model runs show modest disagreement on convective timing and coverage, which directly affects whether temperatures reach the higher end of the range or are capped by cloud cover and rain-cooled air. Historical September 17 highs average near 91°F with records to 99°F, providing context for the current warm anomaly but limited guidance for day-to-day resolution. Updated NWS briefings and afternoon model guidance will be the next key data points for traders.
