This market will resolve to "Yes" if the sitting House of Representatives of Japan is dissolved by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The primary resolution source for this market is official information from the government of Japan, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used. Japan’s House of Representatives was dissolved in January 2026 for a February general election that delivered Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party a record 316 seats and a commanding coalition majority of 352 out of 465. With that supermajority secured only seven months ago, traders see little incentive for another early dissolution before the four-year term expires in 2030. Recent Diet sessions have focused on routine legislative business, cabinet adjustments, and opposition leadership contests rather than government instability. While a prime minister retains the constitutional power to dissolve the lower house at any time, credible triggers such as a sudden loss of coalition support, major scandal, or acute policy crisis remain absent. Any shift would require unforeseen developments capable of altering the current political equilibrium before year-end.
