The recent formation of a caretaker coalition government under Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs of the United List (AS) in late May 2026 has strengthened trader consensus around AS as the leading contender to win the most seats in the 3 October Saeima election. Kulbergs secured confirmation with 66 votes after the prior three-party arrangement collapsed when the Progressives withdrew, enabling AS to consolidate support from New Unity (JV), National Alliance (NA), and the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS). This development shifted momentum away from Latvia First (LPV), which had led earlier polls amid dissatisfaction with the previous administration but now trails at lower implied probabilities. Other parties including PRO, SV, and smaller groups remain marginal, reflecting limited recent shifts in parliamentary positioning or voter blocs ahead of the vote. Traders appear to price the short-term governing role and coalition-building record as key near-term advantages in this closely timed contest.
