Gold traded in a volatile range during the week of August 24, 2026, surging above $4,700 early on before pulling back toward $4,450–$4,600 amid profit-taking. The primary driver was the U.S. Treasury’s expansion of long-term bond buybacks, which weakened the dollar and lowered yields while reinforcing debasement concerns. Persistent inflation (July core PCE at 3.7%) and geopolitical tensions supported safe-haven demand, alongside strong central bank purchases averaging 50 tonnes monthly. Markets awaited Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s August 28 Jackson Hole speech for signals on near-term policy, with rate-hike odds hovering near 34% and Treasury yields influencing real-rate expectations.
