Canada’s fixed-date election law sets the next general vote for October 15, 2029, following the 2025 contest that produced a Liberal minority under Prime Minister Mark Carney. That minority converted to a majority in April 2026 via by-election gains and floor crossings, removing the immediate procedural pressure that often prompts early dissolution. Recent national polls continue to show the Liberals ahead of the Conservatives, while three federal by-elections scheduled for August 31, 2026, offer a limited test of momentum in competitive ridings. Traders therefore price a low probability of a snap election in the remainder of 2026 or 2027 absent a sudden loss of confidence, major policy reversal, or external shock that alters the government’s seat cushion or polling lead.

For this market to resolve to "Yes" it is only necessary that the election date be declared, not that the election actually occur within the market timeframe. (e.g. if on December 23, 2026 an election is scheduled for November 23, 2027, this market will resolve to "Yes").
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of the Canada, However a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
