In New Jersey's 11th Congressional District special election held April 16, 2026, to replace Gov. Mikie Sherrill, Democrat Analilia Mejia defeated Republican Joe Hathaway, with major outlets including AP and NBC projecting her victory shortly after polls closed. This outcome in the Democratic-leaning district, where Mejia advanced from a crowded February primary, has solidified trader consensus at 88.5% for the Democratic Party, reflecting the seat's historical incumbency advantage and strong partisan margins. Final certification remains pending, but no significant irregularities or recounts are reported, leaving slim paths for reversal amid low GOP turnout in this battleground-turned-blue district. Upcoming June primaries will set the regular election field, but the special resolves independently.
