Recent euro area HICP data showing August 2026 inflation at 3.3% year-over-year, driven by a surge in energy prices to 14.3% amid Middle East conflict and supply disruptions, underpins the 80.4% market-implied probability for a 3.1%+ annual average. June Eurosystem staff projections placed 2026 headline inflation at 3.0%, with upward revisions from higher energy assumptions, while core measures remain near 2.4%. The ECB's June rate hike and anticipated September decision reflect efforts to anchor expectations, though persistent energy pass-through could sustain elevated readings through year-end. Upcoming September projections and labor market data will provide key signals for any further policy adjustments.
