Recent energy price volatility stemming from the Middle East conflict has driven UK CPI inflation to 2.9% in July 2026, up from 2.6% in June, with the Bank of England projecting a rise toward 3.2% by year-end 2026 as higher global energy costs pass through to utilities and supply chains. The July Monetary Policy Report highlights upside risks from potential second-round effects on wages and prices, amid Bank Rate held at 3.75% and forecasts for 2026 averaging near 3.1% per external estimates like NIESR. These dynamics support the closely matched market-implied odds between the 3.5–3.9% and 2.0–2.4% annual inflation bands, with trader sentiment reflecting uncertainty over the conflict's duration versus emerging economic slack that could moderate underlying pressures ahead of the September 17 MPC decision.
