Ongoing gang violence, funding shortfalls, and the April 2026 postponement of voter and candidate registration—tied to alignment with a national political pact and potential constitutional referendum—have heightened uncertainty around Haiti's scheduled August 30 first-round elections. The Provisional Electoral Council and Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé's administration maintain plans to complete voting before year-end and install officials by February 2027, yet repeated delays since 2019 and the transitional council's mandate pressures create competitive balance in trader assessments. Further security stabilization or registration resumption could support timely progress, while escalated instability or unresolved logistical barriers might prompt additional slips.
