A federal grand jury indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center in April 2026 on eleven counts of wire fraud, false statements to a federally insured bank, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, alleging the organization funneled over $3 million in donor funds to informants inside extremist groups between 2014 and 2023. The SPLC entered a not guilty plea in May and moved to dismiss the case, arguing vindictive prosecution tied to the current administration. With a tentative October trial date in federal court in Alabama, traders assign a 68 percent implied probability of conviction by year-end, reflecting the strength of the indictment, typical federal conviction rates once charges reach trial, and the compressed timeline, while accounting for ongoing procedural challenges and defense arguments that could alter the outcome.
