Republican nominee Brandon Herrera holds a 68.5% implied probability in the TX-23 race due to the district's established Republican lean in recent cycles and its majority-Hispanic border geography, even after former incumbent Tony Gonzales resigned amid scandal in April 2026. The March Republican primary produced Herrera as nominee following Gonzales's withdrawal, while Democrat Katy Padilla Stout secured her party's nomination. Early head-to-head polling showed a narrow contest, and the DCCC's August addition of the seat to its target list has sustained Democratic interest. Analysts rate the district Likely Republican, reflecting structural advantages that traders weigh against the open-seat dynamics and nominee-specific concerns ahead of the November 3 general election.
