Incumbent Democrat Alma Adams secured the nomination in the March 2026 primary with nearly 79 percent of the vote and faces Republican nominee Jack Codiga in the November general election. The district’s partisan composition, centered in the Charlotte area, has consistently delivered large Democratic margins in recent cycles, and Cook Political Report rates the seat Solidly Democratic. Adams has held the seat since 2014 with minimal opposition, and recent redistricting preserved its core Democratic tilt. Traders price the Democratic outcome at 94 percent because the combination of incumbency advantage, fundraising strength, and structural lean leaves little realistic path for a Republican upset. A late scandal, health issue, or extraordinary national shift would be required to alter the trajectory.
