Recent August data showing 1.7% month-over-month inflation—the lowest in 14 months—has anchored trader expectations for September around the 1.7-2.0% range, with the 1.9-2.1% and 1.6-1.8% buckets commanding nearly equal market-implied odds. Persistent disinflation under President Milei’s fiscal austerity and peso stability continues to weigh on price pressures, as evidenced by core CPI at 1.8% and subdued seasonal components in the latest release. However, potential rebounds in regulated prices for utilities, transport, and health care, alongside any reversal in food or housing categories, create the primary swing factors that keep the two leading outcomes closely contested. Year-to-date accumulation at 21.3% and the October 13 release date leave limited room for late-month surprises to shift consensus before resolution.
