Nicolás Maduro remains detained in a New York federal jail facing U.S. narcotics trafficking charges from the Southern District of New York, which carry penalties up to life imprisonment, following his January 2026 capture by U.S. forces and subsequent not-guilty plea. Trader consensus prices a 60+ year sentence at 34.5% against no prison time at 28%, reflecting uncertainty over prosecution evidence strength versus defense motions challenging the legality of his abduction, potential immunity claims, and jurisdictional issues. Yesterday's agreement to exclude time under the Speedy Trial Act—from April 24 to a June 29 hearing—extends pretrial preparations, keeping the race tight amid voluminous discovery and possible plea negotiations. Key separators include rulings on suppression motions or trial outcomes.
