The Scottish Parliament election on 7 May 2026 delivered a fifth consecutive victory for the Scottish National Party as the largest party, securing 57 seats with nearly all 129 declared, well ahead of Scottish Labour and Reform UK tied around 17 seats each, amid surges for the Scottish Greens and Liberal Democrats. SNP leader John Swinney declared victory as counts finalized over 8–9 May, reflecting trader consensus on the party's enduring dominance in proportional representation despite seat losses from 2021 and no overall majority threshold of 65. While remaining Highlands and Islands regional list seats pose negligible risk, potential recounts or legal disputes could theoretically challenge the outcome, though official tallies cement SNP's commanding position.
