Recent polling in Maranhão’s open Senate contest shows a fragmented field where Roseana Sarney holds a clear lead while four to five other registered candidates remain within the margin of error for second place. The August 15 close of candidacy registrations locked in an 11-candidate ballot that includes André Fufuca, Lahesio Bonfim, Weverton Rocha, Eliziane Gama, Cidônio Gonçalves, and Dr. Hilton Gonçalo, each drawing support from overlapping regional and party bases. Lahesio Bonfim’s earlier shift from the gubernatorial race has further crowded the middle of the pack. With no dominant coalition or late surge evident in the latest IPPI and Véritas surveys, traders see limited separation until campaign advertising intensifies or additional alliances form ahead of October.
