South Korea's iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY) has exhibited extreme volatility in July 2026, with a steep pullback from 52-week highs near 220 amid a broader semiconductor-led selloff in the KOSPI. Heavy exposure to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix ties performance directly to global chip demand, AI spending trends, and memory pricing dynamics, producing a beta near 2.4 and amplifying moves in both directions. Year-to-date gains exceeded 55-65% through late July despite the correction, supported by robust foreign inflows of $940 million into the fund in recent sessions. Traders are watching earnings from key chipmakers, U.S. tech capex trends, and any shifts in monetary policy or export data for signals on whether the recent rebound can sustain through month-end.
