South Korea’s EWY ETF, tracking the MSCI Korea 25/50 Index and heavily weighted toward semiconductors, has surged more than 125% year-to-date through June 18, 2026, closing at $219.20 after a 6.89% single-day gain amid record KOSPI advances. The primary catalyst remains the semiconductor upcycle, with strong export growth, elevated DRAM price forecasts, and robust earnings from Samsung and SK Hynix driving institutional inflows and retail participation. Recent domestic demand improvements and GDP beats have reinforced momentum, while traders also monitor potential MSCI developed-market inclusion and any hawkish Fed signals affecting global risk appetite. With the ETF near its 52-week high and elevated volatility, the week of June 22 centers on whether chip demand sustains the advance or profit-taking emerges ahead of key data releases.
