Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed on April 15 that President Vladimir Putin will visit China in the first half of 2026, prompting traders to price "Yes" at 86.5% implied probability for a trip by May 31. This follows President Xi Jinping's February invitation during a videoconference, which Putin accepted for spring and November visits, amid deepening bilateral ties including boosted energy supplies and strategic partnership discussions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted preparations underway with dates forthcoming, potentially mid-to-late May following a planned U.S. President Trump trip, though no bilateral meeting is scheduled. Ongoing diplomatic coordination and absence of disruptions reinforce trader consensus on the high likelihood of the summit occurring within the resolution window.
