This market will resolve to "Yes" if China commences a military offensive intended to establish control over any portion of the Republic of China (Taiwan) by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Territory under the administration of the Republic of China, including any inhabited islands, will qualify; however, uninhabited islands will not qualify. The resolution source for this market will be official confirmation by China, Taiwan, the United Nations, or any permanent member of the UN Security Council; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.China's leadership continues to prioritize gray-zone coercion, military modernization, and preparations for potential contingencies over a full-scale invasion of Taiwan, supporting trader consensus that such an attack remains unlikely by the end of 2027. Recent assessments highlight persistent PLA shortfalls in amphibious lift, joint command after senior purges, and unproven combat experience, which analysts assess would make a complex cross-strait operation highly costly and risky through at least the near term. Beijing has signaled preference for "peaceful reunification" while conducting routine exercises focused on blockades and encirclement, alongside diplomatic pressure such as warnings over new U.S. arms sales ahead of a planned Trump-Xi summit. Taiwan's accelerating defense spending, asymmetric capabilities, and long-range strike systems, combined with U.S. and allied deterrence efforts, further elevate perceived barriers. These dynamics align with multiple independent evaluations indicating invasion risk stays low absent major escalatory triggers like formal Taiwanese independence.
