Recent August data showed China's CPI rising to 0.8% year-on-year from 0.5% in July, driven by higher energy and transport costs amid global oil price pressures, alongside seasonal food and travel gains. Analysts expect September to edge modestly higher toward 1%, supported by continued commodity pass-through and industrial demand in tech sectors, yet constrained by persistent weakness in consumer spending, property sector drag, and overcapacity that limit broad-based price gains. Core inflation remains near 1%, reflecting these offsetting forces. The tight market probabilities around the 0.9-1.1% range capture uncertainty over whether energy effects will sustain momentum or fade against subdued domestic demand before the data release.
