Recent geopolitical tensions, including renewed US-Iran hostilities that lifted energy inflation to around 10% in July 2026, represent the dominant driver behind the 47% market-implied probability for Eurozone annual inflation above 3.1% this year. Headline HICP rose to 2.9% in July from 2.8% in June, with core measures also firming to 2.5%, while ECB staff projections and Chief Economist Lane’s recent comments point to inflation holding near 3% through year-end amid persistent supply shocks. Traders’ consensus, backed by capital at risk on Polymarket, embeds upside risks from second-round effects on services and goods prices, tempered by the ECB’s data-dependent stance and the possibility of energy price stabilization. The August flash reading and September policy meeting remain key near-term catalysts.
