Intense competition for House control in the 2026 midterms, framed as a referendum on the Trump administration, drives trader expectations for turnout in the 115-130 million range. Low presidential approval ratings near 40 percent, Democratic advantages in generic ballot polling and special elections, and higher Democratic primary participation signal stronger opposition mobilization than in prior off-year cycles. Expanded mail and early voting options, generational shifts in eligible voters, and nationalized messaging on economic and policy issues support elevated participation relative to historical midterm baselines of 100-115 million votes. The tight spread among leading ranges reflects uncertainty over whether enthusiasm gaps will persist or weaken base turnout on either side ahead of November 3.
