Recent National Weather Service and model guidance indicate a typical late-summer marine layer pattern for Los Angeles on August 31, with morning low clouds and fog giving way to afternoon sunshine and southwest winds of 10-15 mph. This setup produces highs most often in the upper 70s to mid-80s°F, directly supporting the evenly matched 25% probabilities across the 72-81°F bins. Differentiation among those outcomes hinges on the precise timing of marine-layer dissipation and the strength of the sea breeze, which can suppress peak temperatures by several degrees if onshore flow strengthens or clouds linger longer. Ensemble spreads from NOAA and other agencies show modest day-to-day variability driven by subtle shifts in 500-hPa heights and coastal humidity, leaving traders with genuine uncertainty about whether the daily maximum will fall toward the lower or higher end of the favored range.
