Democratic Representative Angie Craig’s April 2025 decision to run for the open U.S. Senate seat instead of seeking re-election created an open contest in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, a longtime swing seat she had held since 2019. The district’s recent voting patterns and Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party infrastructure have positioned the party’s nominee as the early favorite among traders. Former state Senator and Lakeville Mayor Matt Little secured the DFL endorsement in May 2026 and leads the August 11 primary field. Republican candidates, including state Senator Eric Pratt, face the challenge of flipping a district that has trended Democratic in recent cycles. With the general election still months away, the current 74.5% Democratic consensus reflects these structural and candidate dynamics ahead of the November 3 vote.
