The S&P 500 closed the prior week at 7,674.37, down 1.4% and 1.6% below its August 13 record of 7,798.99, after three weeks of gains that left the index up 12.1% year-to-date. Trader attention centers on the week’s data slate, including July core PCE inflation and preliminary Q2 GDP on August 26, alongside durable goods orders and personal spending figures. Nvidia’s earnings and other major tech reports the same day will test AI-driven revenue momentum, while Fed Chair Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks on August 28 could shift rate-path expectations around the current 3.50–3.75% federal funds target. Geopolitical developments, including new Iran-related sanctions, add to volatility in equity pricing and risk sentiment.
