Latest National Weather Service and model guidance point to a high temperature in the low 70s Fahrenheit for San Francisco on September 17, with trader odds nearly even between the 70-71°F and 72-73°F bins reflecting forecast spread. Persistent but weakening marine layer influence from the cool California Current, combined with light onshore southwest flow and variable afternoon cloud cover, creates the narrow range. Subtle differences in predicted inversion height or wind shift timing can swing the daily maximum by a degree or two, as coastal microclimates respond sharply to even modest changes in marine air depth. Historical September averages near 70°F provide context, while new model runs and afternoon observations will refine probabilities ahead of resolution.
