Recent July ISM Manufacturing PMI strength at 55.6—its highest since May 2022 and well above the 54.0 consensus—has anchored trader focus on sustained expansion for the August release. Broad-based gains in new orders, production, and employment (returning to growth for the first time in 18 months) reflect resilient domestic demand, AI-driven capital spending, and front-loading ahead of tariffs and Middle East supply risks. However, elevated input costs, slowing supplier deliveries, and mixed June manufacturing orders data introduce downside risks, while the spread of market-implied odds across the 54–56 range signals uncertainty over whether momentum holds or moderates toward the historical base rate near 52–53. Key near-term catalysts include the August employment report and any fresh tariff or geopolitical developments.
