Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure south of the Litani River, have driven assessments of potential entry into the Nabatieh District village of Choukine. Advances in late May 2026 reached nearby areas such as Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Mayfadoun, accompanied by evacuation orders and strikes on the municipality. A U.S.-brokered ceasefire took effect in mid-June, followed by a late-June framework agreement outlining phased Israeli withdrawals and Lebanese army deployment in exchange for Hezbollah disarmament steps. Subsequent Israeli actions dismantling tunnels and command sites in the security zone, alongside renewed strikes into summer, reflect efforts to enforce buffer conditions amid ongoing Hezbollah rocket fire and rejection of the deal by the group. These military and diplomatic developments shape trader views on timelines for confirmed ground presence.
