Current short-term forecasts from sources including the Met Office and WeatherBug converge on a maximum of 14–15°C for Wellington on September 16, with partly cloudy skies, northwesterly winds, and low shower risk supporting the market's heavy weighting toward 15°C (59% implied probability). September climatology shows an average daily high near 15°C, while NIWA's spring 2026 outlook highlights a warmer-than-normal seasonal signal tied to El Niño, which elevates the chance of 16°C outcomes (18.5%) relative to cooler results. Model consensus remains the dominant driver, though forecast uncertainty grows with any shift in steering patterns or cloud cover; traders monitor MetService updates and ensemble runs for revisions before resolution.
