Sweden's September 13 parliamentary election produced preliminary results placing the Sweden Democrats third with approximately 17.5 percent of the vote and 62 seats, behind the Social Democrats at 28.1 percent and 100 seats and the Moderates at 19.9 percent and 70 seats. The Sweden Democrats recorded their first decline in national support, shedding around 3 percentage points and 11 seats from 2022 amid reported tactical voting by some right-leaning voters. Remaining overseas and postal ballots, expected to be finalized by mid-week, could adjust totals by a few thousand votes but appear unlikely to alter the ordering given current margins. The outcome aligns with trader consensus on third place while leaving government formation dependent on bloc negotiations and potential Centre Party positioning.
