Recent forecasts from MetService-aligned models and international agencies show Wellington facing a southerly change on September 22 with likely rain and brisk winds, producing overnight lows near 6–7°C after a mild daytime peak around 13–14°C. This setup creates tight uncertainty around the daily minimum because small shifts in frontal timing or wind backing can easily push readings below 5°C or hold them near 8°C. Historical September climatology for the region centers on 8–10°C minima, yet the current pattern deviates with stronger-than-average pressure gradients that enhance mixing and cooling. Traders price the near-even split between sub-4°C and 14°C+ outcomes as reflecting this forecast sensitivity, with resolution hinging on the precise 24-hour minimum recorded at the official Wellington station.
